U Tin Myint Aung, aged 59, a former Myanmar national team player from the “Silver Age” and a midfielder for the Finance & Revenue club, passed away on the morning of 23 March due to natural causes.

 

The Myanmar Football Federation (MFF) issued a statement expressing deep condolences for the passing of U Tin Myint Aung, who served in various high-level capacities, including Technical Director, Associate Technical Director, and Head Coach for both the Myanmar Men’s and Women’s National Teams.

 

His career spanned several successful eras: the Universi­ty Selection team from 1985 to 1994, Finance & Revenue from 1987 to 2000, and the Malaysian Armed Forces FC from 1989 to 1991. He represented the Myan­mar National Team from 1989 to 2000. He was a key player of the squad that won the Silver Medal at the 1993 SEA Games. He won multiple domestic championships with Finance & Revenue and was honoured as Best Player in 1997.

 

After retiring from play, he transitioned into a coaching ca­reer starting in 2002: served as Assistant Coach for the Na­tional Team, and later as Head Coach for the Women’s Nation­al Team, the Men’s National Team, and the Myanmar U23 team and served as the Head Coach for Ayeyawady United FC.

 

Beyond coaching, he man­aged youth development pro­jects and collaborated with lo­cal and international experts on technical advancements for the sport. Recognizing his lifelong dedication as a player, coach, technician, and administrator, the MFF awarded him the MFF Service Award during the MFF Congress on 28 November, 2025.

 

The President and Exec­utive Committee of the MFF concluded their statement by noting that the demise of U Tin Myint Aung is a significant loss for Myanmar football, offering their deepest sympathies to his grieving family. — MT/ZN
