Let’s join hands to secure success in MSME businesses

Myanmar’s backbone of economic growth lies within its Micro-, Small-, and Medium-Sized Enterprises (MSMEs). These enterprises, readily accessible to citizen businesspersons, play a pivotal role in shaping the nation’s development and bolstering the state’s economy. Recognizing their significance, the government has embarked on a mission to encourage and invigorate MSMEs. Their strategy primarily focuses on prioritizing manufacturing processes, thereby fortifying the domestic economy, reducing dependence on imported goods, and augmenting export volumes.

To propel this initiative forward, businesspersons must place a strong emphasis on utilizing domestic raw materials sourced from agriculture and livestock farms in the production of MSME goods. This symbiotic relationship between MSMEs and the agricultural sector promises mutual growth and prosperity.

Businesspersons should channel their efforts towards the production of staple commodities such as cooking oil, rice and broken rice, tapioca-based products, rubber-related industries, cotton-based goods, bamboo and rattan products, coffee and tea, and livestock-related industries. These product categories should capture the attention of discerning consumers in the market.

At present, the government shoulders the responsibility of creating favourable business environments for MSMEs. This includes allocating land for manufacturing industries, ensuring a reliable supply of electricity, providing financial assistance, and nurturing MSME development. These business environments must adhere to certain criteria: simplifying the startup process, ensuring the smooth flow of capital, fostering entrepreneurial spirit, and disseminating information effectively through information networks to integrate into the international supply chain.

MSMEs constitute over 90 per cent of the State’s economy, making their prosperity paramount to the overall economic improvement of the nation. Businesspersons should strive to operate both heavy and high-tech industries based on MSMEs, thereby ushering in a new era of industrialization. Simultaneously, they should create job opportunities, with a focus on raw material production, manufacturing, distribution, sales, and stakeholder income generation, contributing to an increase in domestic consumption.

Rural areas in the State, inhabited by more than 70 per cent of the population, are predominantly engaged in agricultural and livestock farming activities. Success in MSME businesses holds the key to reducing poverty and ensuring economic development across the entire nation. Therefore, it is imperative for local authorities of regions and states, along with businesspersons, to collaborate harmoniously in the pursuit of MSME success.

In conclusion, the road to economic prosperity in Myanmar runs through the heart of its MSMEs. By fostering an environment conducive to their growth and prioritizing domestic resources, Myanmar can ensure the well-being of its citizens and secure a brighter economic future for the State.
