Libyan eastern-based army arrests 54 illegal immigrants

A military force of Libyan eastern-based army on Wednesday announced the arrest of 54 illegal immigrants in the eastern city of Ajdabiya.

The illegal immigrants were arrested in a farm in Ajdabiya, the eastern-based army's Deterrence Force said in a statement.

It added that a vehicle driver who was about to transport the immigrants illegally was handed over to the competent authorities.

Ajdabiya, which is located some 150 km south of Benghazi, is one of eastern Libya's most active cities in human trafficking and smuggling, given to the city's desert and rugged nature.

Libya is politically divided between eastern and western governments. The eastern-based army is allied with the eastern-based government.
