Magway, Mandalay regions store 62 million gallons of drinking water to encounter El Nino impacts

According to the Department of Irrigation and Water Utilization Man­agement, the arid regions Magway and Mandalay have stored 62 million gallons of drinking water for consump­tion of over 12,000 people to mitigate impacts of El Nino.

 

In Magway Region, 15.56 million gallons of drinking water are stored in 11 lakes, with Mandalay Region storing 46.63 million gallons in seven lakes. Moreover, more lakes for almost 600 people are planned to be built before 2025.

 

The extreme weather conditions such as the irregular precipitation, extremely high temperature, irregular occurrences of storms and droughts may happen as the consequences of El Nino. — TWA/ TRKM
