THE Department of Rural Development (DRD), under the Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural Development, has accomplished the construction of a concrete road in Lelya (South) Village, Magway Township, Magway Region. The project was implemented using Village Development Project (VDP) funds and public contributions. Responsible officials inspected the project’s full completion yesterday.
During the inspection, U Kyaw Zaw Hein, Head of the Magway Region Department of Rural Development, along with officials and members of the Village Project Committee, reviewed the completed concrete road. The regional director urged the committee members and villagers to collectively maintain the road to ensure its long-term durability.
The newly constructed concrete road measures 1,000 feet in length, 12 feet in width, and six inches in thickness. The project was funded with K15 million from the 2026- 2027 financial year VDP budget and K45 million in public contributions, totalling K60 million. With technical assistance from DRD engineers, the villagers began the construction work in the second week of May. The project is now 100 per cent complete, facilitating easier transport and connectivity for 650 people from 150 households in the village, according to U Kyaw Zaw Hein. — Nyein Thu (Rural)
