Man injured in Pywebwe house fire

One man sustained burn wounds in a house fire that consumed 19 nearby houses, according to the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The fire broke out at the house of a woman named Ma Yin Thein Ngwe, 54, from Mandalay Dan Ward in Pyawbwe Township, Mandalay Region at about 7:45 p.m. on 21 January. The fire is believed to have started from overheated small electric light bulbs in a Buddhist shrine inside the house. The blaze torched 19 houses and injured one neighbour identified as U Win Maung, 55.

The injured man was sent to a public hospital and the house owner is being questioned over fire negligence by the local police. A temporary relief camp for 95 fire victims is being set up at a religious edifice in the ward.—MOHA
