Modi sworn in for second term as Indian PM

Narendra Modi has been sworn in for a second consecutive term as India's prime minister following a landslide victory by his party in recent general elections.

Modi and 57 members of his cabinet attended a swearing-in ceremony at the presidential palace in the capital, New Delhi, on Thursday.

The ceremony brought together leaders from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and six other countries, with which Modi has been strengthening ties.

But Modi did not invite Pakistan's Prime Minister Imran Khan. Military tensions between India and neighboring Pakistan have spiked since February.

Modi will likely try to create jobs and raise income in rural areas to further improve the domestic economy, which is one of the engines of the global economy. Another challenge will be advancing national reconciliation by allaying religious divisions.
