Deputy Minister for Education U Nay Myo Hlaing stated that the ministry is actively collecting data on children across Myanmar who have not yet enrolled in school, prioritizing efforts to ensure their return to the classroom.

He provided this response on 6 July during the 19th day of the second regular session of the third Pyithu Hluttaw, in answer to a question posed by Daw Swe Swe Thin, the Hluttaw representative for the Paungde constituency. The question concerned efforts to collect data on five year old children to support their enrolment and classroom attendance, amid concerns that displaced children may be excluded from educational opportunities.

The deputy minister explained that the ministry is collaborating with the relevant regional and state governments to supervise this, and schools are accepting late enrolments until the end of August.

According to the Ministry of Education, efforts will continue, both through non-formal education programmes and under the supervision of the relevant regional and state governments, to ensure that children unable to attend regular schools do not lose their right to education. — TWA/ZN
