The Ministry of Electric Power organized a meeting on projects with the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.
First, Union Minister U Thaung Han said the meeting is a result of longstanding Myanmar-Russia relations to cooperate with Rosatom and negotiate regarding the needs on the ground.
The Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Electric Power signed “Road Map on Cooperation in the field of the use of Nuclear Energy for Peaceful Purposes for 2022-2023″ with Rosatom on 6 September during the 7th Eastern Economic Forum-EEF which was held in Russia between 5 and 8 September.
Moreover, the Electric Power Planning Department of the ministry made an agreement on feasibility studies for the Russia-Myanmar Small Modular Reactor (SMR) Project on 21 November with Rosatom Energy Projects, a Joint Stock Company while an MoU assessment study agreement on 22 November during the visit to Russia for ATOMEXPO-2022.
The ministry also discussed with Rosatom company to make private investments in projects such as expanding the investment, constructing the power plant, developing small hydropower plants and renewable energy and wind energy project.
The country also invites to cooperate in technical support, construction operations and the investment sector. Discussions are being made to conduct a feasibility study for the thermal power plant project and study the potential locations. Moreover, field studies were also carried out for proper locations to establish wind power plants and small hydropower plants, he added.
At noon, the Union minister discussed matters related to small hydropower projects, renewable wind power projects, thermal power projects and lithium battery factories for electric vehicles in Myanmar with respective project groups. — MNA/KTZH
