Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn inspected the practice session of athletes with disabilities and the rehearsal of the Chinlone group that will show the techniques with various moves creatively and beautifully with the best of their skills for the Fifth National Sports Festi­val at the Myanmar Paralympic Sports Federation in Dagon Myo­thit (North) Township in Yangon yesterday.

 

The Union minister first greeted para-athletes and coach­es who would perform in opening and closing events.

 

While meeting with 142 pa­ra-athletes from seven regions and states, the Union minister said the athletes can have chanc­es to show off their spirit and ca­pabilities regardless of their dis­abilities in the competitions that the people from Myanmar and around the world will watch. He then encouraged them to apply their best capacities in compe­titions.

 

He also watched the dance practice of artistes of the Myan­mar Motion Pictures Organiza­tion and para-athletes.

 

At the meeting hall of the Myanmar Paralympic Sports Federation, officials explained the history of the federation, dif­ferent types of disabilities, aims of the federation, other sports that the athletes with disabilities will compete in, camp training, food, healthcare and training for per­formance for opening and closing events.

 

The Union minister then pre­sented K2 million for para-ath­letes from six regions and states to the officials of the federation.

 

The Union minister also visited the dining hall of the fed­eration and warmly greeted the athletes.

 

The Myanmar Paralympic Sports Federation will compete in four types of sports at the Fifth National Sports Festival — ath­letes, volleyball, chess and swim­ming. The former three compe­titions will be at the stadium in Lewe Township, and the rest will be held at Wunna Theikdi Stadi­um on 5, 6 and 8 December. The people can watch the competi­tions and can donate during their practice sessions.

 

The Union minister proceed­ed to the Myanmar Motion Pic­tures Organization and enjoyed the Chinlone dance performance in which six male chinlone play­ers, two female chinlone players from the Myanmar Traditional Chinlone Federation, and six artistes from the Myanmar Mo­tion Pictures Organization per­formed. Myanmar Motion Pic­tures Organization and Myanmar Traditional Chinlone Federation jointly initiated that performance. The Union minister also watched the practice of the Myanmar tra­ditional orchestra for the back­ground of the sports festival.

 

During the inspection, the Union minister said the mem­bers of film, theatre and musical organizations, including 8,000 athletes from regions, states and ministries, will take part in the Fifth National Sports Festival. It is a national sports festival that can strengthen the endearing quality of citizens for the nation, as well as trust and unity. The festival will be broadcast live all around the world, aiming to show unity, admiration for the country and value for the country’s sports. — MNA/KTZH
