MoIP UM receives UNFPA Regional Director

U Myint Kyaing, Union Minister for Immigration and Population received Mr Francis Pio Smith, Regional Director of the Asia and Pacific Regional Office based in Bangkok from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Thailand and a delegation at the Ministry office in Nay Pyi Taw at 2 pm yesterday.

 

The Ministry of Immigration and Population and UNFPA had a frank exchange of views regarding ways to continue cooperation between MoIP and UNFPA, and UNFPA’s Reproductive Health, youth sector HIV and AIDS in supporting gender equality and gender-based violence work. Due to the need to correct population figures, both sides exchanged views cooperation with the Ministry on population activities, establishing capacity to respond to the needs of Myanmar’s population and family planning, raising awareness about the population problems of developing Myanmar and possible strategies to deal with these problems, assisting in solving Myanmar’s population problems in various ways that meet the needs and promotion of population-related work programmes, The meeting was attended by Deputy Ministers U Htay Hlaing and Dr Myo Thant, the directors-general of the Department of Immigration and Population and responsible officials. — MNA/TS
