Myanmar burns over K1,100 bln worth of seized narcotic drugs

Myanmar burnt narcotic drugs seized in 24 townships of Yan­gon, Mandalay, Taunggyi and six regions and states yesterday, marking the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

 

In Taunggyi, 17 kinds of narcotics drugs and 25 types of precursor chemicals worth over K456 billion (US$ 137.013 million), which were seized in Shan and Kayah states, were destroyed at the event.

 

In Yangon, 26 kinds of narcot­ic drugs and 11 types of precursor chemicals worth over K289 bil­lion (US$ 86.89 million) that were seized in Yangon, Ayeyawady, Bago, Taningyi, Mon, Kayin, Rakhine, by the Highway Police Force, were also destroyed.

 

Moreover, 21 kinds of narcot­ic drugs and 20 types of precur­sor chemicals worth over K418 billion (US$ 125.54 million) that were seized in Mandalay, and the upper and middle parts of the country were burnt in Mandalay Region.

 

This year, the country burnt 77 kinds of drugs and precursor chemicals, including heroin, opi­um, methamphetamine, ICE, speciose powder, cannabis, ket­amine and brownish opium pow­der worth over K1,163 billion (US$ 349.443 million) in 24 townships of Yangon, Mandalay, Taunggyi and six regions and states.

 

Moreover, the ceremony to award the winners of different categories for short stories, arti­cles, poems, songs, photographs, computer posters, paintings, car­toons, posters, computer paint­ings and mottos, marking the 37th International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was also organized at the designated places in Nay Pyi Taw and differ­ent regions and states with the attendance of relevant officials. — MNA/KTZH
