‘Myanmar Day’ event takes place in Beijing

Union Minister for Commerce Dr Than Myint observed ‘Myanmar Day’ event at International Horticulture Expo 2019 held in Beijing, capital of People’s Republic of China, on 4 August.


The event kicked off with the national anthems of Myanmar and China at the International Horticulture Expo Guirul Theater at 9:30 am local time.


Union Minister Dr Than Myint and Deputy Commissioner General Mr Zhao Liangping of the expo made the opening remarks of the event.


Artists from Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture of Myanmar performed with traditional dances to the audience. The event was attended by officials and representatives of respective associations of Myanmar and China.


In the afternoon, Myanmar Ambassador to China U Thit Lin Ohn, Permanent Secretary U Aung Soe and Executive Director of the China-ASEAN Business Council Mr Xu Ningning attended the meeting at the Ocean Spring Hotel, Beijing in the afternoon, to discuss promotion of Myanmar exports to China.


Director Dr Zhao Yifang, General Administrations of Customs of China (GACC), explained rules and procedures in exporting agricultural and fishery products to China. Myanmar and Chinese businesspersons attended the meeting and discussed for possible trades.


Union Minister Dr Than Myint visited Chinese Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM), and discussed with its Deputy Minister about bilateral trade promotion, establishment of border trade zones and export of Myanmar fruits to China.


The Union Minister also met with Vice President of China Oil & Food Cooperation Co, Ltd (COFCO), and discussed about purchasing 0.1 million tons of Myanmar rice that was agreed between Myanmar Rice Federation and COFCO.


Dr Than Myint also held talks with the President of CITIC Construction Co, Ltd. to export Myanmar agricultural products and Chinese investment in agricultural sector. — MNA (Translated by Aung Khin)
