Myanmar delegation returns from UNESCO meeting after Bagan inclusion

The Myanmar delegation that attended the 43rd session of UNESCO World Heritage Committee was cordially welcomed at Yangon International Airport yesterday by Deputy Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture, U Kyi Min, departmental officials, members of Bagan in our Hearts, and admirers of Bagan region.

 

The 43rd session of the World Heritage Committee, held from June 10th to 30th in Baku, Azerbaijan, designated Bagan as a World Heritage Site on 6 July.

 

Three ancient Pyu cities of Han Lin, Beikthano (Vishnu) and Sri Ksetra were designated as World Heritage Sites back on 22 June 2014 while Bagan was the second site to be designated in Myanmar.

 

The meeting was attended by U Kyaw Zeya, Myanmar Ambassador to France and Permanent Representative to UNESCO, officials from the Department of Archaeology and National Museum, Ministry of Education and Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation, domestic and foreign experts, photographers from the group ‘Bagan in our Hearts’, and enthusiasts hoping for Bagan’s inclusion in the UNESCO list. The Myanmar delegation showcased Bagan’s history at the meeting in addition to explanations of its historical value, a replica of the Myazedi inscription, sharing VCDs and traditional food. —MNA (Translated by Zaw Htet Oo)
