THE Myanmar Embassy in London hosted a meeting between the Centre for Agriculture and Bioscience International (CABI) and London-based embassies on 16 July, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Chargé d’Affaires highlighted the importance of agriculture to food security and economic development, noting global challenges such as climate change, crop pests, crop diseases and the growing importance of the One Health approach.
CABI Chief Executive Officer Dr Daniel Elgar outlined the organization’s strategy and objectives, while other officials briefed participants on CABI’s support for member countries, its projects in South and Southeast Asia, and the PlantwisePlus programme, which promotes agricultural technologies.
CABI representatives answered questions from diplomats, and separate discussions with the Myanmar Embassy focused on future cooperation to benefit Myanmar’s farmers.
Myanmar has cooperated with CABI since 1993 to strengthen farmers’ knowledge and skills and support the development of the agricultural sector. — ASH/KNN
