Myanmar hosts 7th meeting of ASEAN Health Cluster 1: Promoting Healthy Lifestyle

The opening ceremony of the 7th meeting of ASEAN Health Cluster 1: Promoting Healthy Lifestyle was held at the meeting room of the Ministry of Health yesterday morning via a hybrid system.

 

The ASEAN Senior Officials’ meeting on Health Development (SOMHD) Chairperson of My­anmar Director-General of the Department of Public Health Dr Myint Myint Than gave a greeting speech. She said that Myanmar is implementing stra­tegic plans and work plans for the ASEAN Health Cluster 1 and that measures have to be taken to achieve a healthy living system within the ASEAN com­munity according to the ASEAN Post-2015 Health Development Agenda-APHDA.

 

Afterwards, the chairman­ship for the ASEAN Health Clus­ter 1 was handed over from Ma­laysia to Myanmar for 2023 and 2024. Then, Myanmar chaired the meeting and the Philippines acted as co-chair.

 

At the meeting, they dis­cussed the prevention and sup­pression of non-communicable diseases, control of smoking and tobacco use, control of drinking, prevention of occupational haz­ards, mental health, occupational health, elderly health, nutrition development and healthy food choices. The meeting will be held from 31 January to 2 February.

 

The ASEAN Health Cluster 1 officials from Myanmar’s Min­istry of Health, representatives from ASEAN member countries, officials from the office of the sec­retary-general of ASEAN, and officials from partner organi­zations attended the meeting. — MNA/KZW
