Myanmar joins G-77 meeting to maintain lower carbon development

UNION Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Ohn Win joined the Ministerial Level Meeting under the theme “Maintaining a Low Carbon Development Path towards the 2030 Agenda in the era of COIVD-19” held virtually on 29 October.

 

The event was convened by the Union Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana as the current president of the G-77 and the President of Guyana, Foreign Affairs Minister of Chile, the alternative chair of United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and Secretary-General of UN respectively made an opening speech.

 

Then, Union Minister U Ohn Win discussed strict frameworks of the country for every development programme regarding the climate change, long-term goals to achieve low carbon society for the current and new generations, difficulties and challenges of developing countries amidst the serious climate changes like floods, drought, storm and landslide, plans to reduce greenhouse gas emission in the long run, work plans to promote Nature-based Solutions and using more renewable energy like solar and wind in 2030 low carbon development plan. He also highlighted the programmes that can stand the climate changes without affecting the natural environment in conducting economic recoveries in the post-COVID-19 period, achievements by complying with the promising green economy development programmes and global cooperation to implement the Paris Agreement and to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

The representatives of ten G-77 member countries, including Myanmar, joined the meeting.
