Myanmar National Human Rights Commission joins 1st Working Group Meeting of Southeast Asia National Human Rights Institutions Forum (SEANF)

THE National Human Rights Commission of Thailand organized the 1st Working Group Meeting of Southeast Asia National Human Rights Institutions Forum – SEANF in a hybrid format between 29 and 30 March.

 

Chairman of Myanmar National Human Rights Commission (MNHRC) U Hla Myint, Vice-Chair Dr Nanda Hmun, commission members, Deputy Director-General of MNHRC’s Office, Director of International Relations joined the event via video conference while the representatives of SEANF countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Timor-Leste attended in person.

 

The meeting discussed the activities and progresses of SEANF member countries after the 19th annual form meeting held in November 2022, implementation of priorities mentioned in five prioritized sectors of SEANF Strategic Plan (2022-2026) by focal members, approval of SEANF Annual Plan 2023, cooperation work between AICHR and SEANF, drafting ASEAN Environmental Rights Framework, Action Plan for Safety of Journalists, Campaign to make international agreement on the rights for the elderly, holding of the 2nd working group meeting of SEANF and the 20th annual meeting, cooperation of SEANF and FORUM-ASIA/ ANNI, group actions of Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines on the issue of nationless like Sabah and further cooperation of SEANF and OHCHR.

 

Then, MNHRC Chairman U Hla Myint and member U Paw Lwin Sein discussed the activities of MNHRC on promotion and protection of human rights after the 19th annual meeting held in November 2022. Deputy Director-General of the MNHRC office Dr Khine Khine Win, the implementations concerning the issue “promoting and protecting human rights in business” from the SEANF Strategic Plan 2022- 2026.

 

The meeting also initially set to hold the 2nd working group meeting of SEANF in July 2023 and the 20th annual meeting of SEANF in November 2023. — MNA/KTZH
