Myanmar objects the comments by Malaysian Leader

U MYINT THU, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, received Mr Zahairi Baharim, Ambassador of Malaysia to Myanmar, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 31 July 2019 at 3:00 pm.

Permanent Secretary expressed his dismay and objected to the comments recently made by Malaysian Prime Minister that displaced persons should be treated as nationals or be given a chance to form their own state and that genocide is happening in the country.

Permanent Secretary further stated that such allegations are not supportive to the ongoing efforts of Myanmar Government and ASEAN in finding a sustainable solution for peace, development and social harmony in Rakhine State. It was also against the ASEAN’s cardinal principles of non-interference in the internal affairs and respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of ASEAN Member States.

The Malaysian Ambassador was also informed that Myanmar categorically rejects allegation on genocide in Myanmar, which is not constructive and in breach of the principles enshrined in the ASEAN Charter.
