Myanmar to take part in both men’s, women’s football tournaments of 30th SEA Games

BOTH Myanmar men’s and women’s football teams will take part in the Southeast Asian Games to be hosted by the Philippines in December.

Myanmar men’s team will be camped beginning from 19 August while the Myanmar women’s team is undergone training for matches before the SEA Games.

In the 2017 SEA Games, Myanmar women’s team stood third while men’s team fourth.

Myanmar Football Federation-MFF will take preparations for the games and will conduct friendly matches with the two national teams in preparation for the 2019 SEA Games in the Philippines.

The draw for the men’s tournament will take place in 3 October, 2019. Four pots will be used for the draw with teams seeded according to their previous performance in the 2017 Southeast Asian Games. Defending champions Thailand and hosts Philippines are seeded in Pot 1.

On the men’s side, football will feature 11 teams being divided into groups A and B with five teams in the former and six teams in the latter, according to the 30th SEA Games organizers, The group stage matches will start on 25 November and end on 5 December. The semi-finals take place on 7 December, while the thirdplace playoff and the final will be held on 10 December.

On the women’s side, Women’s football at the 30th SEA Games features eight teams divided into two groups of four. Group stage matches will take place from 28 November to 4 December. The semi-finals take place on 6 December, while the bronze medal and gold medal matches will be held on 9 December.

The 30th SEA Games will take place from 30 November to 11 December.— Shine Htet Zaw
