THE Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs and the Myanmar Traditional Lethwei Federation jointly conducted the Referee Training Course 1/2026 at 10 am yesterday at Theinbyu Gymnasium in Mingala Taungnyunt Township, Yangon.
At the opening ceremony, the federation’s Vice-President U Kyaw Win Tun delivered the opening remarks, and instructors conducted the training sessions.
“This course will cover refereeing rules and regulations, referees’ conduct and demeanour, and the mindset required of officials. An international referee from Japan has also been invited to deliver lectures. The primary objective is to help develop a new generation of referees for Myanmar traditional Lethwei,” said the federation’s Chief Executive U Kyaw Zin Oo.
Approximately 30 trainees from various regions and states attended the course. The participants include trainees with prior experience in traditional Lethwei.
The course runs from 22 to 28 February. Upon completion, the trainees will serve as referees at new-generation Lethwei challenges. — Bala/ KZL
