The Myanmar traditional New Year Thingyan Festival proposal submitted to UNESCO's World Intangible Cultural Heritage List has been included in UNESCO's preliminary list, accord­ing to the Department of Religious Affairs and National Museums.

 

It stated that according to the preliminary decision by UNESCO, Myanmar's traditional New Year Atã Thingyan festival is included in the list that will be designated as a World Intangible Cultural Heritage, and it was found posted on UNESCO's website.

 

An official decision will be made at the 19th session of the World Intangible Cultural Heritage Committee to be held on 2-7 Decem­ber 2024 in Asunción, Paraguay, regarding the proposal for the Myanmar traditional New Year Ata Thingyan festival submitted by Myanmar.

 

"Since Myanmar's traditional Thingyan, the first intangible heritage for Myanmar, is included in the preliminary list, it is almost certain to be listed as the world's cultural heritage," U Kyaw Myo Win, director at the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture, commented on this inclusion of Myanmar Atã Thingyan. — MT/ZN
