Ngape, 22 March

To boost the local rice supply in Ngape Township, Minbu District, Magway Region, the township has planned to plant 1,271 acres of summer paddy using water from Mannchaung Dam during the 2025 summer crop planting season, and as of now, 103 acres have already been planted.

To support local farmers in the 2025 summer crop season, Mannchaung Dam has been supplying water to the paddy fields in the village tracts since the first week of February. The rice varieties being planted include Aung Naing Toe (53 acres), Sar Poe Tha (8 acres), Manaw Thukha (304 acres), and Sin Thukha (906 acres). Local farmers have so far planted 103 acres, with more planting underway to meet the target.

The Ngape Township Agriculture Department is dedicated to ensuring local food security, improving crop yields, and enhancing the agricultural sector’s production capacity. To support these objectives, the Summer Crops Agriculture Implementation Committee has been formed and is overseeing the work. Officials and field staff are working together to select and cultivate high-quality rice varieties, implement effective agricultural practices to reach the target crop yields, and provide education to farmers.— Ma Yu (Ngape)
