N.Korea blames US before 1st anniversary of summit

North Korea has demanded that the United States stop pressuring Pyongyang into giving up its nuclear program.

A North Korean foreign ministry spokesperson issued a comment on Tuesday via state-run media ahead of the one-year anniversary of their first summit on June 12.

US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un pledged to work towards a new relationship in the joint statement they signed at that summit.

The spokesperson stressed the importance of the statement, saying that North Korea is working to implement it.

The spokesperson said the US turned its back on the statement, insisted on the North's unilateral denuclearization and became more undisguised in its scheme to annihilate the country by force.

The two leaders held a second summit in Vietnam in February, but the talks ended without any agreement.

The spokesperson said the US had missed a lifetime opportunity and cast a dark shadow on the outlook of bilateral dialogue.

The spokesperson urged the US to change its current method and respond to the North's request as soon as possible, adding that there's a limit to Pyongyang's patience.
