N.Korean FM slams US sanctions threat

North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho has pushed back on a US threat to maintain the toughest sanctions ever if Pyongyang does not denuclearize.

In a statement issued on Friday by state-run Korean Central News Agency, Ri warned that the US would be committing a miscalculation if it maintains its confrontational stance toward his country with sanctions.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in a newspaper interview that if North Korea doesn't denuclearize, the US would maintain the toughest sanctions in history, while convincing the North that denuclearization is the right thing to do.

Ri said North Korea is prepared for "both dialogue and stand-off."
