North Okkalapa, 8 January
No casualties were reported in a fire in North Okkalapa Township, Yangon Region on 4 January.
The fire is believed to have started from an electricity meter in a house belonging to a woman identified as Daw Khin Kywe at about 6:30 p.m. The fire engulfed nine nearby houses, making 48 people from 20 households homeless. The staff led by the Director of the Department of Natural Disaster under the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement U Win Shwe presented relief items such as construction materials, rice, school uniforms, blankets, cooking oil, clothes and drinking water to the fire victims.
They were accompanied by local authorities and the estimated value of construction materials is Ks. 1.4 million.—Myo Min Thein (Mayangon)
