Old shells discovered in Meiktila

A resident in Meiktila Township, Mandalay Region discovered six old shells which are believed to be from Japanese occupation period during WWII near a pond on 10 July.

Upon receiving information about the discovery of old bombs, a police squad from a nearby police station went to the scene where the antiquated munitions were discovered. Six old bombs were found near a pond in the compound of a man named U Thein Aung, 76 years old from Wunzin Ward. The house owner confessed that he took old shells ranging from 12 inches in length and around 4 inches in circumference after he found them in a jungle and kept in his house.

The police commandeered the explosive ordinances and handed them over to the security personnel from the No. 911 Military Engineering Regiment.—Thein Myint Kyaw
