ONE person was killed after a 12-wheeled truck overturned on 7 July in Khin U Township, Shwebo district, Sagaing Region, according to the Gone Gyi traffic police.
According to the police, the truck loaded with coal was heading to Shwebo Township from Kanbalu Township when it struck a tree between mileposts 16/0 and 16/1 on the Shwebo-Myitkyina (Union) road and overturned, after the driver, identified as Nam Htike Aung, 26, lost control of the vehicle. Nam Htike Aung’s co-driver, identified as Kyaw Win Sai, 46, was killed on the spot. Nam Htike Aung also sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Khin U general hospital, from where he was transferred to the Shwebo general hospital after receiving preliminary medical care.
The traffic police have charged Nam Htike Aung with reckless driving under Sections 337, 338, and 304 (A) of the Penal Code.— Chit San (Khin U) (Translated by Hay Mar)
