One missing after offshore fishing boat sinks in Haigyikyun 

Haigyikyun, 9 January

A fisherman went missing after an offshore fishing boat sank near an island in the sea about 20 miles southeast of Haigyikyun Township, Ayeyawady Region at around 5 a.m. today due to strong winds.

The offshore fishing boat named “Thet Phyo San-4” with 21 fishermen belongs to a man identified as U San Kyi, Ward-3 in Haigyikyun Township. The fishing boat sank in the sea suddenly after being hit by gusty winds. 20 fishermen from the sunken boat were rescued by nearby boats but an unidentified person went missing in the incident. The fishing boat left Haigyikyun at about 2 p.m. on 8 January.


The search operation for the missing person is ongoing. Arrangements are being made to salvage the sunken boat, according to the initial news.—Kyaw Thu Hein
