Over 80 civilians from Chin State detained by AA yet to be released

THE number of civilians, including students, from Paletwa Township, Chin State, abducted by AA group has reached 82, according to the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services.

 

According to the report, the AA members abducted 69 civilians including villagers and students from Khamaungwa Village on 31 January, U Kyaw Aye from Thanhtaung Village on 14 June, four villagers including U Kyaw Sein from Baungwa Village on 16 June, U Mying Maung Maung from Thanhtaung Village on 1 August, U Hsar Paung from Nannchaungwa Village on 10 August and three villagers including U Nay Myo Thant from Wunchaungwa Village on 14 August respectively.

 

Families of the abductees said they did not receive any contact from them until 31 October.

 

The families sought help from the Chin State Government and the National Reconciliation and Peace Centre to save the detainees, according to the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services.
