Over 8,000 litres of hydrochloric acid seized in Tachilek

Police on Monday seized 8,280 litres of hydrochloric acid as part of a search-and-seizure operation at the Myanmar-Thai friendship bridge in Tachilek. The trade of hydrochloric acid is restricted in Myanmar.

When a combined team comprising local police and members of the anti-drug squad stopped a tricycle vehicle enroute from Mae Sai to Tachilek on the bridge, they found 65 containers with capacity of 20-litres each of hydrochloric acid on the vehicle.

The police detained Aik San, who was driving the vehicle. About 30 minutes later, the police found another vehicle carrying 50 containers with capacity of 20-litres each of hydrochloric acid.

After interrogating the detainees, the police searched the house of Aik Maung, suspected to be the owner of the acid, and found 299 containers with the capacity of 20-litre each from vehicles in his house. A total of 8,280 litres of hydrochloric acid, worth over K66 million, was seized in the operation.
