Pakistan suspending key train service to India

Pakistan says it is suspending a key train service to India following New Delhi's withdrawal of autonomy in the Indian-administered portion of Kashmir.

The train service links Pakistan's eastern city of Lahore and India's capital, New Delhi. It had been halted each time tension over Kashmir escalated between the two neighbors.

Pakistan's announcement came two days after India stripped its Muslim-majority state of Jammu and Kashmir of special constitutional status. The state had been allowed a large degree of autonomy since 1949.

Pakistan's government on Wednesday disclosed plans to downgrade ties with India. They include recalling its ambassador and suspending bilateral trade.

Observers say military tension could flare up again between the two nations.
