Pathein fire torches five stalls, makes 12 people homeless

Three stalls have reportedly been burnt to ashes in a shop fire in Pathein Township, Ayeyawady Region.

Firefighters from a local fire brigade received a phone call that a fire broke out at a shop at about 12:45 noon on 16 March. Firemen together with volunteers, members of the Myanmar Red Cross Society, philanthropists, policemen and locals took about 30 minutes to completely put out the blaze with the use of eight fire engines, six water tankers and fire extinguishers.

Ayeyawady Region Minister for Security and Border Affairs and the local cabinet members gave words of encouragement to those fighting against the flame. The fire engulfed five stalls, and destroyed items worth Ks. 8.7 million, making 12 people homeless.

The cause of the fire is still unknown and an investigation into the case is ongoing by the local police.—IPRD
