Philippines' durian, avocado, mango exports rise in 2023

The Philippines' durian, avocado, and mango exports rose by 4,000 percent, 316 percent, and 109 percent, respectively, in 2023, the Philippines' Department of Agriculture said Thursday.

The country's department of agriculture said the Philippines last year exported 4,731 tons of fresh durian worth 1.89 billion pesos (33.44 million U.S. dollars), 3,045.6 metric tons of avocado valued at 377 million pesos (6.67 million dollars), and 12,548.49 metric tons of mangoes worth 2.9 billion pesos (51.32 million dollars).

China and the Philippines signed a protocol last year on the export of fresh durian, which opened up the fast-growing Chinese market for the tropical fruit that is widely grown in the Southeast Asian region.

Also in 2023, the Philippines resumed exporting fresh Hass avocados to South Korea, and restarted to export fresh mangoes to Australia.
