Physical achievements draw people closer, strengthen Union Spirit

To bring light into the lives of our ethnic brethren across the country, the nationwide electrification plan is being implemented. Access to electricity drives the productivity of households, empowers women, and enables education and communication. Electrification develops not just our lives, but also opens the path to better opportunities for future generations.

We are confident that electrification will shine the light on future opportunities for our ethnic brethren.

Roads and infrastructure are important for connecting all of us and for developing our economy. Electrification supports communication efforts within the country and the whole world.

“Having access to electricity will light up the lives of both children and their parents. It will be a guide for their future. There will also be more opportunities for businesses to grow. We are not trying to achieve electrification with a simple-minded approach; we are proceeding with an open mind to achieve benefits for our nation,” said State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi at the inauguration of a hydropower station in Putao recently.

Another significant achievement came on 23 December last year with the start of 24-hour power supply to Maungtaw, Rakhine State, through the national grid. Works are underway to supply power to villages in Maungtaw Township. Meanwhile, employees of the Ministry of Electricity and Energy fulfilled their duties and responsibilities by completing the more than 63 miles long 66-KV cable linking Punnagyun and Maungtaw, passing through Yathedaung and Buthidaung, and sub-power stations at the cost of Ks20 billion.

Besides, 1,530 households in Yathedaung in Rakhine State have been provided with electricity since 15 March last year thanks to the Yathedaung sub-power station, and 3,374 households were linked with a local sub-power station in October last year.

The recent achievements signal a significant milestone in our development, enabling ethnic nationals living in different areas to form closer bonds and strengthen loving kindness.

These nationwide achievements were brought about by understanding the needs, concerns, and hopes of local ethnic people, and can help spread the Union spirit among them. They also show the cetana (goodwill) and care we have for all ethnic nationals.

Every citizen is valuable to the nation. Despite living in different areas, we are truly living on the same land and drinking the same water. To gain further achievements in terms of security and socio-economic development of all ethnic people, all are urged to work together with the Union Spirit.
