Police eradicate poppy fields in Shan and Kachin States, Sagaing Region

The police destroyed acres of poppy plantations in Hopong in Shan State, Waingmaw Township in Kachin State and Nanyon Township in Sagaing Region on 31 December, according to the Ministry of Home Affairs. 

An anti-drug squad from the township police force destroyed almost 15 acres of poppy fields about two mile east of Donlitan Village, Hopong Township in southern Shan State on 31December. Similarly, another police squad from the township police force annihilated over 16 acres of poppy plantations near Wotchong Village in Waingmaw Township in Kachin State on the same day. Likewise, a combined squad from Khamti District police force eradicated more than 6 acres of poppy fields about three miles northwest of Takar Village in Nanyon Township in Sagaing Region.    

The Myanmar Police Force has been stepping up campaigns to destroy poppy cultivation throughout the country in cooperation with people, local authorities and civil society organizations.—MOHA
