Police eradicate poppy plantations in southern Shan State

The police destroyed acres of poppy plantations in Hopong and Hsiseng Township in Southern Shan State on Monday, according to the Ministry of Home Affairs. 

An anti-drug squad led by the head of the township police force Police Major Min Han annihilated almost 17 acres of poppy fields about one mile and two furlongs south of Panglian Village, Hopong Township in southern Shan State at about 7:45 a.m. on 7 January. At the same time, they eradicated around 13 acres of poppy plantations near Htitan Village in Hsiseng Townships, southern Shan State.
The Myanmar Police Force has been stepping up campaigns to destroy poppy cultivation throughout the country in cooperation with people, local authorities and civil society organizations.—MOHA
