Police seize drugs in vehicle search in Maungtaw

Security personnel seized thousands of stimulant tablets from a passenger at a checkpoint in Maungtaw Township, Rakhine State on Wednesday, according to the Ministry of Home Affairs.

 

Members of a security force intercepted a vehicle driven by a man named Hla Than, 25 years of age from Thayargon Village, Maungtaw Township at about 12 noon on 2 January at Kyeinchaung checkpoint. The vehicle was on its way to Taungpyo, a border town, from Maungtaw. They discovered 195,000 stimulant pills from a female passenger identified as Ma Waing Chae (alias) Khin Sandar Than, 28 years old from Taungpyowe Village.

 

She confessed that the drugs were transported by her husband named Min Min who accompanied by motorbike. The couple has been charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by the local police station.—MOHA
