Pompeo hopeful US-N.Korea talks will resume

Despite North Korea's recent ballistic missile launches, the US says it remains optimistic the two countries can make progress on denuclearization.

US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo said "We hope that we can have working level discussions starting again very soon."

But when that will happen remains unclear.

Pompeo and his North Korean counterpart Ri Yong Ho were expected to meet on the sidelines of a security forum in Bangkok later this week. But Ri has reportedly decided not to attend the event.

Meanwhile, Washington is continuing to pressure Pyongyang.

On Monday the Treasury Department announced it is sanctioning a Vietnam-based North Korean for violating UN Security Council Resolutions.

It accuses the man of assisting the North Korean regime earn foreign currency by helping export goods out of the country.
