Pompeo: US-N.Korea talks likely 'sometime in July'

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has said he expects bilateral talks on North Korea's denuclearization to resume "sometime in July."

US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un agreed at their third meeting on Sunday to restart stalled talks by forming negotiation teams within two to three weeks.

Trump and Kim met in the truce village of Panmunjom in the demilitarized zone between North and South Korea.

Pompeo told reporters before leaving South Korea on Sunday that the US special representative for North Korea, Stephen Biegun, will lead the talks with Pyongyang's Foreign Ministry officials.

He expressed the view that Kim Jong Un really wants to get something very significant done.

The US and North Korea remain far apart on what denuclearization would entail, as well as on the details of the process itself.

Trump did not answer reporters' questions upon his return to the White House at around 8 p.m. on Sunday.
