Poppy plantations annihilated in Sagaing Region, Shan and Kachin States

The police destroyed acres of poppy plantations in Hopong, Pekhon, Waingmaw and Nanyon Townships on 3 January, according to the Ministry of Home Affairs. 


An anti-drug squad led by the head of the township police force destroyed almost 7 acres of poppy fields about two miles east of Lonhae Village, Hopong Township in southern Shan State on 3 January 2020. At the same time, another police squad force led by the head of the township police force eradicated around 35 acres of poppy plantations about one mile southwest of Mawkham Mrauk Village in Pekhon Townships, southern Shan State on the same day.


A police force also annihilated around 4 acres of poppy fields near Sinkyaing Village in Waingmaw Township in Kachin State. Another anti-drug squad led by the head of the district township police force wiped out about 2 acres of poppy plantations about six miles south of Lonmak Village in Nanyon Township in Sagaing Region on the same day.  


The Myanmar Police Force has been stepping up campaigns to destroy poppy cultivation throughout the country in cooperation with people, local authorities and civil society organizations.—MOHA
