Poppy plantations annihilated in Shan State

The police eradicated acres of poppy plantations in Hopong, Hsiseng and Kengtung Townships in Shan State on 7 January, according to the Ministry of Home Affairs.

 

An anti-drug squad led by the head of the township police force destroyed almost 35 acres of poppy fields about one mile east of Hsinbyu Village, Pekhon Township in southern Shan State on 7 January. At the same time, another police squad from the township police force’s office wiped out around 9 acres of poppy plantations near Ngoshee Village in Hopong Townships, southern Shan State on the same day.

 

Likewise, a police contingent from Myoma police station destroyed about 6.5 acres of poppy fields near Naungson-2 Village in Kengtung Township, Eastern Shan State on the same day.

 

The Myanmar Police Force has been stepping up campaigns to destroy poppy cultivation throughout the country in cooperation with people, local authorities and civil society organizations.—MOHA
