Poppy plantations wiped out in Shan State

The police annihilated about 30 acres of poppy fields in Hopong, Kunhing, Namhsan and Mongpan Townships in Shan State on 13 January, according to the Ministry of Home Affairs.

 

An anti-drug squad from the township police force destroyed almost 12 acres of poppy fields about two miles northwest of Laikkan Village, Hopong Township in southern Shan State on 13 January. Similarly, another police squad wiped out around 5 acres of poppy plantations near Hongleik Village in Kunhing Township in southern Shan State on the same day.

 

Likewise, policemen also eradicated around 8 acres of poppy fields about ten miles west of Konpaung Village in Namhsan Township.  Police members from also annihilated about 0.5 acre of poppy plantation about three miles west of Lwekham Village in Mongpan Township on the same day. 

 

The Myanmar Police Force has been stepping up campaigns to destroy poppy cultivation throughout the country in cooperation with people, local authorities and civil society organizations.—MOHA
