THE subject-specific sub­committee coordination meeting (preliminary stage) for the selection and awarding of the 2025 National Literary Awards from among books pub­lished in 2025 was held on 8 June at the meeting hall of the Sarpay Beikman Office on Merchant Road in Yangon.

 

During the meeting, committee members of the respective subject se­lection and screening dis­cussed in detail the pro­gress of the preliminary screening and selection process for books submit­ted under the designated categories of the 2025 Na­tional Literary Awards.

 

The State annually presents the National Lit­erary Award for Lifetime Achievement and the Na­tional Literary Awards in recognition of out­standing achievements, lifelong dedication, and significant contributions to Myanmar literature.

 

The 2024 National Literary Award for Life­time Achievement was conferred on literary scholar Dr Daw Po (Ma Lay Po), writer U Than Nyunt (Zin Min–Thamein Htaw), writer Daw Tin Yi (Tin Yi Ma-NyaungU), writer U Ko Ko (Ko– Tekkatho), and literary scholar Dr Khin Than Oo (Ma Moe Myay).

The National Lit­erary Award Selection Committee comprises 20 members, including lit­erary scholars, intellec­tuals, subject-matter ex­perts, and experienced professionals from the printing and publishing industry. The selection process is conducted systematically in three stages—preliminary screening, shortlisting, and final approval—ac­cording to the respec­tive subject categories. — TWA/TH
