NURSES and midwives are healthcare professionals who provide the closest and most compassionate care to patients. Their dedicated efforts, compassionate healthcare services, and warm, caring smiles provide strength and encouragement to patients and their families who are experiencing suffering and serve as the best support for their recovery and relief from illness.

The humanity, loving care, and compassion demonstrated by nurses and midwives cannot be replaced by any other ma­terial things or equipment. Therefore, nurses and midwives themselves should never forget that their professional service is “The Art of Nursing,” and they should take pride in, re­spect, and value their noble profession.

The State is implement­ing policies to promote the health and well-being of the entire nation and to improve the healthcare sector. In doing so, emphasis is being placed on providing health­care services that directly benefit the people and ensur­ing Universal Health Cover­age (UHC) that is accessible to everyone, regardless of whether they live in urban or rural areas and irrespective of their economic status.

To improve the health and well-being of the en­tire nation and enhance the healthcare sector, it is neces­sary to sufficiently increase, train, and develop healthcare human resources to ensure that all people have access to healthcare services. There­fore, among the nursing and midwifery training schools, 15 schools have recently been upgraded to Institutes of Nursing.

The institutes of nursing in Nay Pyi Taw, regions, and states have now become important healthcare education centres not only for the development of the nation’s healthcare system but also for the further development of the country’s healthcare human resources by producing qualified and compassionate nurses and midwifery professionals.

Whenever the country has faced pandemics, natural disas­ters, and other emergencies, nurses and midwives have served as frontline responders, selflessly and courageously carrying out their duties to protect and safeguard the lives and health of the people without placing their own safety and hardships above their responsibilities. Therefore, institutes of nursing and training schools need to provide a strong foundation and systematic training to nurture future nurses and midwives to become truly knowledgeable, competent, and outstanding nursing and midwifery professionals.

The State has carried out comprehensive efforts to upgrade the healthcare sector based on the principle that “nothing is more important than human life,” and will continue to fur­ther enhance the sector in the future. Therefore, nurses and midwives are required to faithfully perform their duties and responsibilities in accordance with their dignity, professional ethics, and code of conduct.
