Farmers in Pwintbyu Township, Magway Region, have completed the harvest of 3,280 acres of rainy-season green gram, according to the Township Department of Agriculture.

Harvesting began in early July, with an average yield of 19.13 baskets per acre.

The department has encouraged farmers to use high-yielding varieties suited to local conditions, adopt proper cultivation practices, and apply fertilizers and other agricultural inputs systematically to improve productivity and expand cultivation. It is also providing technical support on pest management and timely harvesting.

Green gram is a profitable cash crop that contributes to domestic food security while generating export earnings from surplus production. Expanding green gram cultivation and improving yields can help increase farmers' incomes and support local socio-economic development, said Daw Moe Moe Wai, Staff Officer of the Township Department of Agriculture.—Hlaing Win Lay (Pwintbyu Myay)
