Pwintbyu, April 22
Pwintbyu Township in Magway Region has completed the harvesting of its winter pea crops, according to the Township Department of Agriculture.
A total of 3,480 acres were cultivated during the winter season. Harvesting began in February this year and has now been fully completed, with an average yield of 18.08 baskets per acre.
The Department of Agriculture has supported local farmers by promoting suitable crop varieties, efficient irrigation practices, proper use of fertilizers and inputs, pest control, and timely harvesting methods to improve productivity.
Under the department’s guidance, farmers in Pwintbyu Township grow peas as a commercial crop during the winter season. Some cultivate peas as a sole crop, while others combine them with additional crops to increase their income.
Officials noted that expanding pea cultivation and improving yields could help meet domestic demand and boost exports, contributing to socio-economic development.—Hlaing Win Lay (Pwintbyu Myay)
