Pwintbyu, June 23
Farmers in Pwintbyu Township, Magway Region, are expected to cultivate 1,846 acres of lablab bean during this year’s rainy season, according to the Township Department of Agriculture.
The township has set a target of 1,846 acres for rainy-season lablab bean cultivation. Planting is scheduled to begin in June and continue through September.
To support farmers, the Township Department of Agriculture will provide technical assistance and agricultural training. Extension activities will focus on expanding cultivation areas, improving crop yields, promoting Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), encouraging the use of high-yielding varieties suitable for local conditions, controlling pests and diseases, and adopting proper post-harvest management techniques.
“If the productivity of lablab bean cultivation can be increased, it will not only meet domestic demand but also create export opportunities for surplus production. This, in turn, will help generate income for farmers and contribute to socio-economic development,” said Daw Moe Moe Wai, Township Manager of the Pwintbyu Township Department of Agriculture.
She added that efforts are being made to expand lablab bean cultivation across the township.— Hlaing Win Lay (Pwintbyu Myay)
