December 17

THE villages which are next to the river in Waw, Thanatpin and Kawa townships, have been experiencing riverbank erosion, causing agricultural land loss.

Bago Region Chief Minister U Myo Swe Win discussed this matter at a coordination meeting of the Coastal Resource Management Committee on 15 December to mitigate the land loss.

The meeting highlighted those matters to prevent riverbank erosion, maintain the natural habitat of the rainforest along Sittoung River and the Gulf of Mottama, administer those rainforests in compliance with a law, establish the protected areas and forest land for the communities and establish the rainforest areas in certain places.
