River crossing bridge linking two townships under construction

Myeik District is composed of many islands and Kyunsu is one of the island townships. Residents in the district solely rely on waterway to travel to another area. A river crossing bridge that connects Kyunsu Township and Myeik Township are being built.
    

 

The bridge construction site is located near milepost 20/2 on the Myeik-Taninthayi Road in Myeik Township. The bridge is of reinforced concrete facility and measures 2,100 ft. in length including the approach and 22 ft. in width. Its clearance is about 27 ft. and waterway under the bridge is 164 ft. and it can withstand up to 75 tons of weight. Construction of the bridge is expected to cost Ks. 13.65 billion and the funds are jointly allocated by the regional government and the Department of Rural Development.
    

 

Upon completion of the bridge, around 35,000 local people from 40 vliiages from seven village-tracts will be able to use it in all season with greater ease, thereby contributing to improving their education, health, economy and social status.—Khayan Soe Myint
